One More Thing

In March 2009 we started working on a new version of One More Thing, the biggest Dutch Apple community with around 3.5 billion visitors a month. On the 1st of April 2010, the same day as Apple was founded, we finally released the new version.

A mix of functionality and simplicity

We're very happy with how this project turned out. One More Thing is a nice blend of functionality and simplicity. Together with our client, and Kevin, we did our very best to bring the best experience we could deliver to the users.

The numbers in this project were daunting. We migrated a forum with almost 2 million forum posts, which is quite a hard task. Before the launch, we worked 36h in a row to get the website online. Since then we've improving the community section of the site every day by fixing bugs and adding new features, and we'll continue to do so in the future. We believe that a community-based site needs to be improved on a regular basis.

Frameworks and tools we used

Wordpress is the base for this project, and most of the community features are handled by bbPress. By combining those two with self-written Wordpress plugins we made a completely integrated solution. Caching is extremely important in a project of this size, therefore, we combined the Wordpress Total Cache plugin with our own home-made memcached-based caching system to get the job done.
